The flush handle, usually located on the front or side of the toilet tank, is the mechanism that starts the flushing process. When you press or pull the flush lever, it lifts the flapper, activating the flush valve. This, in turn, triggers the release of water from the tank into the bowl, effectively flushing away the waste.

The flapper is the valve at the bottom of the toilet tank. When you press down the flush handle, the flapper is lifted. This action allows the water in the tank to quickly rush into the bowl, flushing away all the waste. Once the water moves from the tank to the bowl, the flapper gradually sinks back down to sit on the flush valve. This closing of the flapper prevents any more water from entering the bowl.
