How to Fix Toilet Flushing on its Own

Does your toilet flush on its own? This is a problem known as ghost flushing. It signals that your flapper is leaking and needs to be replaced. It is common to hear your toilet running when your repair parts begin to wear out. However, did you know that the most common cause for a leaking toilet is actually your toilet flapper? Due to the fact that you can hear your fill valve working, it's easy to assume that it's the main issue, when it's actually just doing its job to bring water into the tank.

STEP 1: The first step is to shut off the water supply to your toilet.  

STEP 2: Next, flush your toilet to drain the excess water and remove the old flapper.

STEP 3: Clean the area of where the flapper sits to remove any sediment or debris that can build up, preventing the flapper from sealing properly.

STEP 4: Install your Korky flapper by attaching the flapper ears to the tabs of the flush valve. This may vary slightly depending on the Korky flapper model you have. Find the correct flapper for your toilet here.

STEP 5: Attach the flapper chain to the flush lever by making sure the flapper chain is going as straight up and down as possible from the flush lever and has minimal slack. If the chain has excess slack or is too tight, the flapper may not perform adequately. 

STEP 6: Turn the water supply back on to complete you installation.
