How to Plunge a Toilet
Do you have a clogged toilet? Dealing with a backed-up toilet is inconvenient, but easy to fix! A common mistake is using a sink plunger (you know, that flat, red plunger with a wooden handle) rather than a flanged toilet plunger, which is designed to seal inside the bowl.
While plunging is the best method for unclogging most backed-up toilets, it isn't always the right solution. Objects like cell phones, toys, or other items can accidentally fall in. In these cases, wear gloves and carefully remove the object by hand if possible.
If you notice a sewer gas smell, open a window for ventilation and call a plumber. Issues with your pipes or sewer could be potentially dangerous, so it is always better to have professional guidance.
Insert the Plunger into the Bowl
Insert the plunger at a 45-degree angle, allowing the plunger head to fill with water. Helps avoid splashing, especially in nearly full toilets.
