How to Fix a Toilet Flushing Twice
Does your toilet flush twice with only one press of the toilet handle? A simple adjustment of your toilet flapper quickly resolves this.
If your toilet flushes twice, it is likely because the flapper stays open too long and flushes too much water. If your flapper is adjustable, you can correct this by adjusting your flapper to close faster. If you do not have an adjustable flapper, your toilet may have the incorrect flapper installed.
You should also make sure the flapper chain only has one to two chain links in slack from the flush lever. The flapper may not perform correctly if the chain has excess slack or is too tight.
Confirm You Have the Correct Flapper
Some flush valves require a specific-fit flapper, although most will work with a universal flapper that is adjustable. If you do not have an adjustable flapper, you need to get one.
Your flush valve will need either a standard 2-inch or large 3-inch toilet flapper, so make sure you measure before heading to the store. We recommend either of our 2X Long-Life Toilet Flappers as a replacement.
